Eagles get 'great lesson' in costly quarter, Blue praised for key role

Eagles Learn From Costly Quarter, Blue Praised for Key Role

The West Coast Eagles suffered a disappointing third quarter that proved decisive as Carlton surged ahead in Saturday's elimination final. Coach Daisy Pearce highlighted the Blues' physical presence and relentless pressure as the crucial factors behind the outcome.

"I just thought they lifted their physicality and intensity," Pearce said. "For a 15-minute period or so, we just got knocked off the ball too easily. That's finals footy and it'll be a great lesson for us moving forward."

The Eagles had stayed competitive in the first half before Carlton responded strongly after the break, kicking six unanswered goals. The Blues’ run helped secure a 41-point victory in challenging, rainy conditions at Ikon Park.

Pearce emphasized that this defeat provides her developing team with vital finals experience and an opportunity to refocus for next season.

"We just go back to the drawing board, try to really narrow in on a few things that will give us a bigger return next year. A good starting point will be more strength and conditioning in our fundamentals. Just more work ahead of us," she said.

Despite the disappointment, Pearce underlined the value of these challenges, believing they’ll add to the players’ resilience and eventual success.

"When you eventually get there and have success, it's these moments that make it more satisfying. You've got to endure losses like today and have experiences like today."
