Strong weather has prompted overlapping warnings on Thursday morning across B.C.’s South Coast and Lower Mainland.
Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) issued a rainfall warning for parts of Metro Vancouver, including the North Shore, Coquitlam, Maple Ridge, and Howe Sound.
“An additional 20 to 40 mm of rainfall can be expected before the rain eases off later this evening,” said the ECCC.
“Water will likely pool on roads and in low-lying areas. There may be a significant impact on rush hour traffic. Local utility outages are possible.”
1130 NewsRadio Meteorologist Michael Kuss noted that the heaviest rain is expected during the Thursday afternoon commute.
The ECCC also issued a wind warning for Richmond, Delta, the Sunshine Coast, and much of eastern Vancouver Island. Wind speeds may reach 70 to 90 kilometres per hour.
The agency advises residents to “secure loose objects” as winds will ease later in the evening.
Strong rain and wind warnings remain active Thursday morning for B.C.’s South Coast and Lower Mainland, with impacts expected on traffic and possible utility outages.
