Wirral will observe a solemn silence this Remembrance Sunday as residents come together to honour those who have fallen. Services will take place across the borough on Sunday, 9 November.
The Mayor of Wirral, Councillor Brian Kenny, will lead the Civic Service starting at 10:55 am at the Cenotaph in Hamilton Square, Birkenhead. At 11:00 am, a two-minute silence will be held, followed by a traditional Service of Remembrance conducted by Reverend Paul Bentley, Vicar of Birkenhead Priory Parish and Rural Dean of Birkenhead.
The Mayor will lay a wreath on behalf of the people of Wirral at the Cenotaph. Deputy Lieutenant Sue Higginson OBE DL will lay a wreath representing His Majesty The King. Following them will be representatives from Wirral Council, armed forces, various organizations, and relatives of servicemen lost in recent conflicts.
At the conclusion of the service, the Mayor and Deputy Lieutenant will take the salute at a march past led by 107 Field Squadron, Royal Engineers.
After the parade departs from Hamilton Square, members of the public can lay their own tributes at the Cenotaph.
