People are urged not to consume various alfalfa sprouts produced by Parilla Fresh following a nationwide recall due to potential Salmonella contamination. This recall comes after a joint investigation by interstate health and food regulatory authorities detected an increase in an unusual type of Salmonella infection.
Parilla Fresh, based in New South Wales (NSW), has removed the product from sale while further testing and investigations continue.
The Victorian Department of Health reports that the recalled alfalfa sprouts were sold at multiple supermarkets including Coles, Woolworths, IGA, and other independent stores across NSW, Queensland, Victoria, Northern Territory, Australian Capital Territory, and South Australia.
Specific brands involved in the recall are listed by FSANZ, covering all relevant batches sold in the affected regions.
Victoria's Chief Health Officer, Dr Caroline McElnay, said: "If you've eaten alfalfa sprouts, you should monitor for symptoms of salmonellosis, which may include diarrhea, fever and headache."
She also advised anyone who has recently purchased the affected products to discard them immediately to prevent illness.
The recall of Parilla Fresh alfalfa sprouts due to Salmonella concerns highlights the importance of vigilance with foodborne illnesses and prompt public health responses to protect consumers.
