Islanders' Matthew Schaefer Scores First NHL Goal vs. Capitals
During the New York Islanders' home opener, Matthew Schaefer scored his first NHL goal, adding to his early milestones.
The 18-year-old defenseman scored at 16:41 of the third period, cutting the deficit to 4-2 against the Washington Capitals.
The goal stood after a lengthy review, following a challenge from Capitals head coach Spencer Carbery for a hand pass.
Schaefer previously scored his first assist and point in the Islanders' first game of the season against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
