UK food needs radical transformation on scale not seen since Second World War, new report finds | UWE Bristol

UK Food System Requires Radical Transformation

A new report from UWE Bristol emphasizes the need for rapid and urgent action to transform the UK's food system, akin to the scale seen during the Second World War.

The report, titled "The Roadmap for Resilience: A UK Food Plan for 2050," highlights the importance of rebooting the economy, saving the NHS billions, ensuring national food security, and meeting climate commitments.

Change will be forced upon us by increasing pressures and the UK will lurch from crisis to crisis, including from food price shocks, climate disasters and weakening economic productivity.

Key Recommendations

The government must take the lead with "decisive and coordinated action" and implement 10 key recommendations to achieve this transformation by 2050.

Author's summary: UK food system needs radical transformation to ensure national food security and meet climate commitments.
