The Gardner Newman girls cross country team achieved a milestone by finishing third at the Division II state competition, their highest finish in program history.
With a team mostly composed of first-year runners, the Mustangs showed significant progress throughout the season. Eighth-grader Emma Clark noted,
"The first race was really tough, but you just kind of get used to it after a bunch of practices and races,"highlighting the team's growth and adaptation.
Despite their historic achievement, the runners were self-critical and somewhat disappointed with their placement. In contrast, head coach Denae Hill was satisfied with the team's performance.
