Alberta Introduces New Licence Plates
Alberta is getting new licence plates. The UCP announced a 'tournament-style' online vote to select a new design, replacing the current one from 1984.
The new plate will feature the words 'Strong and Free', adopted as the provincial motto in 1980. This phrase is also part of the UCP's slogan and a reference to the party's Strong and Free Club.
- The current licence plate design was introduced in 1984.
- 'Wild Rose Country' was on plates from 1974, but its removal was proposed in 2014 and later reversed.
The new motto will “serve as a nod to Canada’s national anthem and Alberta’s position as a strong and sovereign province within a united Canada.”
