Government Completes Assessment of Sydney-Newcastle High-Speed Rail Business Case
The federal government has completed its assessment of the business case for the Sydney-Newcastle High-Speed Rail project.
The assessment was conducted by Infrastructure Australia, which has been reviewing the business case since December last year.
- The project's estimated cost for Stage 1 (Sydney to Newcastle) is between $30 billion and $40 billion, according to industry experts.
- High Speed Rail Authority chief executive Tim Parker declined to comment on costs, citing dependence on government decisions.

said Tim Parker in a Senate estimates hearing.
The government has confirmed its commitment to progressing the project.
