Any watch collector will tell you a large part of the fun is the thrill of chase. Hunting down the rarest Rolexes and the most unique Pateks to add to a collection just gets the juices flowing, and with Rolex there’s plenty to put in your crosshairs with the Crown making over 1.2million watches a year.
It’s a common misconception that when Rolex discontinues a watch it will instantly become rare. Contrary to what you might have heard, Rolex doesn't actually discontinue watches very often. Sure they update a case or offer minor tweaks but, on the whole, timepieces in their catalogue tend to be around for a long time before they kick the bucket.
So, just because something is no longer available we shouldn’t assume it’s become as rare as a reasonably priced Oasis ticket.
