New Canadian Border Guards Announced

The federal government has announced a series of new measures to boost Canadian border security, including the hiring of 1,000 new border guards.

Prime Minister Mark Carney announced the new measures, which will be part of the upcoming federal budget, at an event in Niagara Falls, Ont. Two Liberal MPs, Jill McKnight and Ernie Klassen, were on hand at the Peace Arch border crossing in South Surrey to discuss the announcement.

The new measures aim to "crack down on the movement of stolen goods, illegal guns and drugs, enforce import measures, and investigate unfair trade practices."
