Thousands of Unsafe Tumble Dryers Recalled

Thanks to the efforts of Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service, thousands of unsafe tumble dryers have been recalled.

A fire incident involving a tumble dryer prompted the fire service to submit a product-related warning notification to the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS).

We are lucky we were in the room at the time of the incident. It’s scary to think of how different the outcome may have been otherwise with how fast the fire spread. - Steve, fire victim

The OPSS conducted a forensic examination of the tumble dryer and subsequently issued a 'requirement to warn' notice to Haier, the manufacturer of eight affected brands.

As a result, Haier is obligated to contact owners of the affected appliances, including over 17,000 heat pump tumble dryer owners who must stop using them immediately due to a persistent fire risk.

Author's summary: Thousands of tumble dryers recalled due to fire risk.
