Chinook Salmon Fishing Closed on Umatilla River

The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife is closing a section of the Umatilla River to chinook salmon fishing from October 18 to November 30.

This closure, which starts at the Highway 730 bridge and extends upriver to Threemile Dam, is due to low numbers of returning fish and increasing harvest rates.

The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife is trying to ensure it collects enough fish at Threemile Dam for breeding and to support the long-term sustainability of the chinook fishery in the Umatilla.

The daily bag limit for steelhead on the river remains at three fish.
