Homeless Man Arrested at Publix in The Villages
A 67-year-old homeless man, Michael Anthony Newgent, was arrested at a Publix grocery store in The Villages.
Newgent was spotted sitting outside the Publix at La Plaza Grande with a cardboard sign stating he was homeless, prompting The Villages Commercial Property Management to contact law enforcement.
- He had been issued a trespass notice on May 8, ordering him to stay off all property at La Plaza Grande.
- A search found four smoking devices, which Newgent identified as "weed pipes", and a plastic container with a substance that tested positive for amphetamines.
Newgent has a violent criminal history, according to the Lady Lake Police Department's arrest report.
