Points North: How ‘Bout Them Apples?

On a remote island in Lake Michigan, old apple trees may hold rare, never-before-discovered genes, potentially joining the U.S. apple stockpile to combat future threats.

Luke Marion is searching for apple trees on Beaver Island, 32 miles off mainland Michigan. He collects cuttings from the trees, storing them in a cooler to remain dormant.

Points North is a biweekly podcast about the land, water, and inhabitants of the Great Lakes.
