Cure Blindness Project Partners Shine at AAO 2025
At the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) annual meeting, held October 18-20 in Orlando, Cure Blindness Project partners earned two top awards and presented new research from war-torn Tigray.
Awards and Recognition
Lloyd B. Williams, MD, PhD, received the 2025 Outstanding Humanitarian Service Award for his commitment to curing blindness globally.
- Since 2008, he has donated thousands of hours of surgical service in underserved regions.
- He has performed hundreds of cataract operations and corneal transplants each year.
Williams performed the first corneal transplant in Sierra Leone, a landmark for local eye care infrastructure.
