How is UW supporting job seekers with disabilities?

Support for Job Seekers with Disabilities at UW

Youth with disabilities face significant challenges in the job market, with employment rates for those aged 15 to 24 at approximately 54 per cent as of this fall.

This number, which includes both youth with and without disabilities, marks the lowest employment rate since 1999, excluding peak pandemic years.

“It’s pretty grim out there right now,” said Vanessa Sinclair, director of research and evaluation at the Canadian Council on Rehabilitation and Work (CCRW).

The CCRW notes that students and recent graduates with disabilities, who make up 20 per cent of the country’s youth, experience higher unemployment rates despite increased attendance in post-secondary education.
