Amsterdam Expands Security Zone Ahead of Anti-Immigration Protest
Amsterdam authorities have declared a large portion of the city center a security risk area ahead of an anti-immigration demonstration planned for Saturday afternoon at Museumplein.
The expanded security zone includes key areas such as Centraal Station, the Red Light District, Nieuwmarkt, Dam Square, and Rembrandtplein. Police have been granted the authority to conduct preventive searches, and wearing face coverings is prohibited within this zone.
The demonstration, organized by Nederland in Opstand, was originally set to take place at Dam Square but was moved to Museumplein due to safety concerns.
Nederland in Opstand urged participants to keep the protest peaceful.
The city is also preparing for additional crowds as the Netherlands national soccer team is scheduled to play at the Johan Cruijff ArenA, potentially increasing the number of people in the city center and Dam Square.
