Following the recent scandal at ELTE, thousands of international students in Hungary may face tightened scholarship contracts.
A lecture by Alexander Yakobson, a historian from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, was disrupted on 16 October, leading to its suspension. The lecture series, titled "Diverzitás és demokrácia az izraeli társadalomban", is still available on ELTE's website.
The incident began when students wearing keffiyehs shouted that the lecture was political propaganda supporting Israeli genocide, causing a disturbance that could not be calmed by the lecturer, attendees, or security.
Neither the lecturer, the other attendees, nor the university’s security could calm the disturbance, so the lecture was eventually halted.
Two ministers and the university rector have demanded accountability in response to the incident.
