A recommendation to end racing at Maitland's historic showground venue has been made, but Greyhound Racing NSW (GRNSW) boss Steve Griffin expects Maitland to remain a key part of the sport.
If Maitland were to close, the racing meetings would stay in the Hunter.
A report by Deloitte Australia, released by GRNSW, recommends reducing the number of race tracks in the state from 25 to 15. This would result in the closure of three TAB tracks, including Maitland, Wagga Wagga, and Broken Hill, by June 30 next year.
