Discovery Bicycle Tours' Vietnam: Hoi An's Dazzling Lights, Tranquil Countryside

When I think of Hoi An, Vietnam, I think of "dazzling" and I think of Venice. The first glimpse in the night, walking over the Hội An bridge into Old Town, is breathtaking - colored lights and lanterns popping out of the darkness, sampan boats rowing on the river evoking Venetian gondoliers, and reflections on the dappled surface of the water.

The scene is reminiscent of Venice, with the crush of people crossing the bridge, similar to the Ponte di Rialto, but with the added hubbub of motorbikes winding their way through the crowd. The Japanese Covered Bridge also draws comparisons to Venice's Bridge of Sighs.

The first glimpse in the night... takes my breath away.
