A 23-year-old cab driver, Amanpreet Brar, has been charged with three offenses under the Territorial Motor Vehicles Act following a fatal collision on September 28.
The collision occurred on the Alaska Highway near the Crestview neighborhood in Whitehorse, resulting in the death of 64-year-old Ricky John and his dog. The head-on crash happened around 10:30 p.m.
According to the RCMP, Brar allegedly crossed a double solid line, drove left of the center line, and drove carelessly. Brar was driving a southbound minivan taxicab with a passenger at the time of the crash. Both he and the passenger were hospitalized after the collision.
Brar is scheduled to make his first court appearance on November 18 in Whitehorse.
