US passport support in Apple Wallet is a significant step forward.
We first learned about the upcoming feature at WWDC25, and although it hasn't arrived in iOS 26 yet, Apple confirmed it's on the way. An update to the Apple website last month indicated it would be available by the end of the year, and Jennifer Bailey, Apple's VP of Apple Pay and Apple Wallet, reaffirmed this in a conference keynote.
US passport support will work similarly to making an Apple Pay transaction.
To use it, you'll tap your iPhone to a reader, and your digital passport information will be transmitted via NFC, similar to how card details are sent during a payment. The secure protocol used allows the TSA system to verify the authenticity of your passport details.
It's essential to understand what you can and cannot do with your digital passport. Notably, you won't be able to use it for international travel, which will still require your physical passport.
