Over 2,700 People Denied Maltese Citizenship In Past Five Years

In a parliamentary session, Minister for Home Affairs, Security and Employment Byron Camilleri revealed that 2,752 people had their applications for Maltese citizenship via naturalisation denied in the past five years.

Out of this number, 756 were dependents, including children or family members who applied alongside primary applicants.

The Minister didn’t reveal details on the applicants' countries of origin or how long they’ve been living in Malta.

The question was tabled by PN MP Graziella Attard Previ, seeking transparency on citizenship refusals.

Author's summary: Malta denies citizenship to over 2,700 applicants.
