Iraq's foreign minister calls for disarmament of 'PKK elements' in the north

Iraq's Foreign Minister Calls for Disarmament

Iraq's Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein called for the disarmament of "PKK elements" in the north of the country.

The Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) had begun laying down its arms in July in a symbolic ceremony in northern Iraq, as part of a peace effort with Ankara.

However, according to Hussein, armed "PKK elements" remain in northern Iraq, notably in Sinjar and Makhmur.

"PKK elements" must disarm, said Fuad Hussein.

This development comes as part of a broader effort to address the presence of Kurdish separatist fighters in the region.
