NARD's Strike: Alarm Bell

The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) strike, which began on November 1, will affect 91 healthcare facilities nationwide, according to Dr Shuaibu Ibrahim, Secretary-General of NARD.

The strike involves about 11,000 members, mainly comprising doctors in the public sector, including federal and state teaching and specialist hospitals. Resident doctors are those who have received their medical degree and are undergoing additional training in their chosen specialty, which can last from three to seven years.

"Our demands are not selfish, neither are they politically motivated,"

said NARD President Dr Muhammad Suleiman, in a statement after the strike commenced.
