LOS ANGELES — Luka Doncic delivered another strong performance, scoring 35 points and adding 13 assists as the Los Angeles Lakers edged past the San Antonio Spurs 118–116 at Crypto.com Arena. The final minutes were tense, but the Lakers closed the game on a 21–10 run to secure their fifth consecutive victory.
The game was marked by an unusual number of whistles, featuring 66 fouls and 84 free-throw attempts. Yet, the Lakers maintained composure and executed late plays despite a costly mistake that nearly opened the door for a Spurs comeback.
Before tipoff, the conversation around the Lakers camp—especially from Coach JJ Redick and center Deandre Ayton—centered largely on San Antonio’s rising star, Victor Wembanyama. Standing 7-foot-4 and possessing rare versatility, the French rookie has already proven to distort defensive schemes on both ends of the floor.
“He bends opponents’ principles – offensively and defensively,” JJ Redick said.
Redick praised his players for their unity and determination during the tight contest.
“Our group is so connected right now, we were able to get back together and there was no quitting,” Redick noted. “It’s a connected group.”
Doncic, returning after a one-game rest in Portland, nearly posted a triple-double with nine rebounds, five steals, and two blocks. Although he shot just 9-for-27 from the field, his playmaking and composure in clutch moments helped seal the win. The result boosted the Lakers to a 7–2 record heading into a challenging five-game road stretch.
“For him and for the group, the word of the day is resiliency,” Redick added.
Luka Doncic’s near triple-double led a resilient Lakers squad to overcome San Antonio’s challenge and extend their winning streak to five games in a foul-heavy thriller.
